The Chapel of St Martin (Friedensstraße 53)

St Martin’s Chapel was probably built in the middle of the 13th Century. Its once rich furnishings can now be seen in the Saalfeld Town Museum. Among these are a figure of St Martin on horseback and a small Altar of the Crucifixion from a Saalfeld wood-carver’s workshop. Also included are a small group of figures dating from around 1500 representing the Crowning of Mary and a devotional figure of Anna Selbdritt, carved by Hans Gottwalt von Lohr.

The infirmary on the left of St Martin’s Chapel was rebuilt at the beginning of the 20th Century. Until a few years ago this was the town’s old people’s home.
